Sheila Buonaiuto

Sheila Buonaiuto, 81, of Fairmont, peacefully went to be with her Lord on Saturday (Nov. 16, 2013) surrounded by her loving family at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born in New Hyde Park, N.Y., on July 31, 1932, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Gefken) Dettleff.

Sheila was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School and attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. She had a deep love for the Lord, for her family and for music. She taught piano lessons for many years. She enjoyed writing and was the author of three published books titled “The Yielded Life.” She served the Lord in many ways and in many capacities, as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a Sunday school teacher, a Deaconess, a prayer minister and a Bible study leader. She also served as a spiritual counselor to many friends and people in crisis.

She is survived by the love of her life, Frank Buonaiuto of Fairmont. The couple married in May 1951. He was with her in heart, soul, mind and body until her passing. Sheila suffered from a disability and he cheerfully served her all their married life. She is survived by two sons, Mark Buonaiuto of Evanston, Ill., and the Rev. Richard Buonaiuto and his wife Sharon of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Megan, Jennie, Sarah, Emily, Christopher, Joseph and Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Benjamin.

Also surviving is a brother, Richard Dettleff and his wife Madeline; a sister, Kathrine Poschmann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 3-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with her son, the Rev. Rich Buonaiuto, officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
