Geneva Marie “Peggy” Springs, 85, of Fairmont, passed suddenly from this life in her home Sunday evening (Nov. 4, 2012).
She was born in Fairmont on Aug. 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Jesse and Queen Ester V. Burns Springs.
Peggy attended services at the Morningstar Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at the Fairmont Hotel and the Cleveland Avenue Elks Club. She also worked as a domestic worker throughout her lifetime until she retired.
She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, gardening and doing lawn work.
She is survived by her son, Frederick Springs, her sister, Gladys R. Maddox, both of Fairmont; a great-niece, DeDreayl Maddox King; and a great-great-niece, Landesa Maddox, whom she raised; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Osey Springs, Jesse “Bo” Springs and Herschel “Tung” Springs; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Josephine Springs, Jane Mae Smith and her husband John “Shay” Smith, as well as Gladys’ husband Leon Maddox; one niece, Senita Richardson; and one nephew, Ron “Loopie” Smith.
Friends may call at the Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, Friday from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev.
