Harold Meigs Nuzum, 92, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (Nov. 5, 2012) at John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center.
He was born in Fairmont on Feb. 1, 1920, a son of the late Frederick Meigs and Iva Mae (Ostrowski) Nuzum.
Harold was retired from Monongahela Power Co., Rivesville plant, in 1980 with 35 years of service as a machinist first class, high pressure welder, boiler, pipe fitter, machine and coal equipment specialist. In his earlier years, he had worked at Helmick Foundry Machine Co. from 1939-1941, at Glenn L. Martin Plant 2, Middle River, Md., and at Eastern Rolling Mill Company in Baltimore as a set-up inspector.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School Class of 1939 where he lettered in football and earned the nickname “Stonewall.” He was a devout Christian who lived his faith. He and his late wife, Mary Louise, were longtime volunteers at the Fairmont Food Pantry.
He is survived by one son, Jude Meigs Nuzum and his wife Mary Anne of Kingston, R.I.; four grandchildren, Christopher J. Nuzum and his wife Anne of Pawtucket, R.I., Thomas Meigs Nuzum and his wife Julie of East Greenwich, R.I., James M. Nuzum and his wife Elianna of Boston, Mass., and Alisa K. McGann and her husband Sean of Boston; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a devoted stepson, William B. Menefee and his wife Pamela of Klamath Falls, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary Louise (Menefee) Nuzum; first wife, Mary Teresa (Seccuro) Nuzum; and a son, Robert J. Nuzum. He was also preceded in death by all six of his siblings.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Monday from 9-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Marsh officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.
