‘Bob’ Brooks

James Robert “Bob” Brooks, 88, of Big Mill Fall Run, passed away on April 15, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born April 27, 1924, in Farmington, the son of the late Grant Brooks and Stella Wolf Brooks.

Bob was hit by a streetcar when he was a little boy, which left him mentally handicapped, but he still enjoyed life. He was a Christian and loved going to church and singing songs about Jesus.

He attended Farmington Grade School and enjoyed family gatherings, working jigsaw puzzles, going to fairs and shopping with his brothers-in-law.

He is survived by two brothers, Dale Brooks and wife Wanda, of Big Mill Fall Run, and Jerry Lee Brooks and wife Pat of Goose Creek, S.C.; four sisters, Maxine McDonald of Bridgeport, Betty Lou Hepler of Big Mill Fall Run, Doris Hensley and husband Lou of Fairmont, and Barbara Korsh and husband Paul of Farmington; and sister-in-law, Gaylene Brooks of Worthington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Brooks and Lester Eugene Brooks, as well as one sister, Pauline Brooks.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 4-9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Betty Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
