Hope Schmuck

V. Hope Schmuck, 92, of Grafton, passed away Tuesday (April 8, 2014) in her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 31, 1921, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late I.G. and Lora Cutwright Zickefoose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph “Adam” Schmuck, in 1988.

Mrs. Schmuck was a Baptist by faith. She retired as a nurse from Fairmont General Hospital in 1987 with more than 20 years of service. After her retirement, Hope loved spending time at her home, where she enjoyed giving special care to her garden, hooking rugs and quilting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: sons, Robert “Sonny” Schmuck of White Plains, Md., James and his wife Wilma Schmuck of Grafton, Ronald Schmuck of Grafton, and David and his wife Wanda Schmuck of Grafton, and daughter, Joyce and her husband Gary Fagerberg of Battleground, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, Brian Fagerberg, Dwain Fagerberg, Karen Fagerberg, Lora Andreassen, Matthew Schmuck, Jeffrey Schmuck, Christine Witter, Melissa Schmuck, Shannon Isner and Heath Welch; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Maureen Schmuck; and siblings, Clefta Waogner, Celesta Reed, Noble Zickefoose, Wanda Henry Zickefoose, Verl Williams, Carter Von Zickefoose, Paul Russell Zickefoose and Corbin Zickefoose.

The family would like to thank the Taylor County Hospice and her hospice nurses, Amber Wright and Stephanie Hott, for their special care for Hope over the last several months.

Friends and family may call Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today, from 2-8 p.m. Friday, and from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Bob Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover.
