Pete Sehewchuk, 91, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (April 9, 2014) at his home in Fairmont surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.
He was born in Scranton, Pa., on Aug. 5, 1922, a son of the late Nicholia and Anastassa (Emilianovich) Sehewchuk.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Pearl (Carter) Sehewchuk, in June 2003.
Pete proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a coal miner by trade, retiring as a foreman from Consol Coal Co. with many years of service. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 17, Fairmont VFW Post 629 and the UMWA. He loved automobiles, fishing in the Shenandoah Valley, his church family and his dog, Dink.
He is survived by one brother, Harry Shevchuck and his wife Joyce, and two sisters, Mary Martin and Olga Ulrich, all of Wilmington, Dela.; a sister-in-law, Marge Schevchuk of Fairmont; a good friend, Bob Moore of Fairmont; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel P. “Danny” Sehewchuk, in November 2012; a brother, Nick Schevchuk; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Ulrich and William Martin.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Friday and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Tom Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County where military honors will be conducted.
