Clair Chenoweth

Clair Chenoweth, 79, of Green Valley community, Bridgeport, passed away Sunday morning (April 27, 2014) in the United Hospital Center.

He was born May 5, 1934, in Elkins, a son of the late Okey Chenoweth and Eva Canfield Chenoweth.                                                                

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Chenoweth, whom he married Jan. 18, 1964. Bettie passed away on May 3, 2008.

He is survived by two sons, Roger C. Chenoweth and his wife Jo Anne of Knik, Alaska, and Matthew Allen Chenoweth and his wife Totie of Pruntytown; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Chenoweth, Erica Chenoweth, Melissa Bleecker, Rebecca Spencer, Jennifer Cutright, Scott Chenoweth, Nikki Brockleman, Jill Ferguson, Christina Blackburn and Christopher Mullen; six great-grandchildren, Claire Mullen, Lacie Dever, Taylor Chenoweth, Mackenzie Chenoweth, Adelia Turnbull and Brody Brockleman; four brothers, Okey Chenoweth Jr. and Loren, Neil and Wayne Chenoweth; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Mullen; three brothers, Ronald Chenoweth Sr., and Harold and Herbert Chenoweth; and three sisters, Margeret James, Dolores Clark and Doris Shaffer.

Mr. Chenoweth worked for Wilson Motors from 1957-1966, Harry Green Chevrolet from 1966-1970 and Wallace Motor Company from 1970-1974. Wallace Motor Company then became Chenoweth Auto Sales Lincoln Mercury dealership in 1974. He then purchased Wilson Ford, which became Chenoweth Ford from 1976 through his retirement in 2007.

Clair was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed raccoon hunting and competing with his championship dogs. He also enjoyed farming and working with his cattle, and was always a proud supporter of the FFA, donating his time and money to their causes. In addition, he also served on the board for WesBanco and supported many business and civic organizations in Harrison County. He was also a fan of the West Virginia Mountaineer sports.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday from 5–8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m., where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.

    Carmela retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, also the Sharing and Caring group.
