Jessie W. Kamp, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday (April 27, 2014). She was in her home with her loving family beside her.
She was born and raised in Cairo, Ga., on Oct. 1, 1917. She married John Kamp and they resided in New York City, where they raised their family. Upon retirement they settled for the last 30 years on Burnt Cabin Road in Fairmont, where her husband preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Wayne Allen of Grover Beach, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gene Bell, also of Burnt Cabin Road; and son and daughter-in-law, John Kamp and Myra Rappaport of Allan, N.Y.
Jessie enjoyed gardening and the great outdoors, which she enjoyed with her family of 11 grandchildren and their spouses, 15 great-grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Grannie Kamp was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
She was a devoted member of Monongah Baptist Church, which was a very important part of her life because of her love for her Lord.
A memorial service will be held in Jessie’s honor Friday at Monongah Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor David Huckins officiating. For directions to the church, call 304-534-3890.
