Ethel Mae (Hickman) VanGilder, 88, of Levels Road, Fairmont, passed away Thursday (May 1, 2014) at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont.
She was born in Fairmont, on Feb. 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Thomas M. and Hazel (Kirby) Hickman.
Ethel was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry D. VanGilder of Fairmont; one son, Garry VanGilder and his wife Susan of Fairmont; one daughter, Loretta Price of Salem, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Patricia Harper and her husband Roy of Rivesville, Betty West of Rivesville and Emma Hall of Millersville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence DeVault and Frances Yates; three brothers, James Hickman, Earl Hickman and Alfred Hickman; one son-in-law, Carl Harvey Price; and four brothers-in-law, Walter “Buster” Hall, Marion West, Charles Yates and Paul DeVault.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 1-8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
