Helen Blankenship

Helen R. Blankenship, 75, of Greensburg, Pa., formerly of Rachel, died Friday (July 12, 2013) in her home.

She was born Oct. 9, 1937, in Mannington, a daughter of the late Hazel Blount Martonosi.

She loved spending time with her family, liked to read and enjoyed watching movies on television and caring for her beloved cats, Dusty and Peaches.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Blankenship, in 1997; and two sisters, Gypsie Ann Efaw and Greta Barth.

She is survived by a son, George Brian Blankenship and companion Rebekah Sarber of Harrison City, Pa.; a daughter, Tina Marie Blankenship of Rachel; and two sisters, Dinah Martonosi of Mannington and Charieta Goodnight of Romney.

There will be a private memorial service being planned at the Mannington Church of Christ in Mannington. The James E. Lindsay Funeral Home Inc., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City, Pa. is in charge of arrangements.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
