Carolyn Sue Landes

Carolyn Sue Landes, 66, of Diamond Street, Fairmont, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon (July 22, 2013) in her residence.

She was born Feb. 12, 1947, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Junior Hamilton and Genevieve “Curtis” Landes.

Sue was a member of the Baptist Temple in Fairmont, being a member of the Thursday Bible Study Group. Sue was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State College. She worked at Philips Lighting Co. and retired when the Fairmont plant closed in 2009.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Margaret Hall and her husband Paul of Bridgeport; her brother, Junior Hamilton Landes and his wife Beverly of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a twin brother, Charles Lester Landes and his wife Holly of Moorefield.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Ann Landes.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m., with Dr. Rev. Holley Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.

The family requests that all memorial donations be made to the Baptist Temple, 430 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
