Lynda (Hanway) Hamilton, 70, of North Sewickley Township, passed away Friday (July 26, 2013) at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late James and Louise (Baker) Hanway.
She had taught in the New Brighton Area Schools and then retired from teaching at the Portersville Christian School. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of New Brighton, where she had taught Sunday School, was involved in Children’s Ministries and was a former youth leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Hamilton, Oct. 14, 2012, and a brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Hambel.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jonell and Ron Raab of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Missy and Doug Raab of New Brighton, Pa.; six grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Brown, Christina Raab, Joshua (Paige) Raab, Donovan Raab, Savanna Raab and Brandon Raab; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lisa Hambel of Dormont, Pa.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Roger and Sharon Hamilton of Spelter; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, Pa. Monday, friends will be received at the Church of the Nazarene, 417 Penn Ave., New Brighton, from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donald W. MacNeil, officiating.
Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Mt. Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum, Fairmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in her name to the Church of the Nazarene.
