Patricia Ferrell

Patricia Yelich Volek Ferrell, 61, of Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, passed away Tuesday morning (May 21, 2013) in Fairmont General Hospital.  

She was born Oct. 16, 1951, in Morgantown, daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth McMillen Yelich. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Joseph Volek, who died in 2002.

Mrs. Ferrell was a Catholic by faith. She very much enjoyed being with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.  

Survivors include a son and his wife, Rick and Tracie Volek of Fairmont; a daughter and her husband, Tricia and Wan Long of Rivesville; five grandchildren, Randy Volek of Glenville, John and his wife Lana Long of Rivesville, Shelley Long of Rivesville, Nicole Volek of Fairmont, and Chloe Rae Volek of Mannington; three brothers and their spouses, John and Pam Yelich of Weirton, George and Peggy Yelich of Fairmont, and Albert and Shelia Yelich of Fairmont; and a sister and her husband, Barbara and Tom Tupes of Everettville.  

She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Chance Volek, a brother, Jack Cox, a sister, Beverly Newbraugh, and her second husband, Stephen Ray Ferrell.  

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper Street, Rivesville, from 6-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Burial will follow in Arnettsville Cemetery in Arnettsville.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
