Ida May Sloan

Ida May Yost Hayes Sloan, 85, of Waynesburg, Pa., formerly of Mannington, died Thursday morning (May 23 2013), at her residence.

She was born Aug. 22, 1927, at Marianne, Pa.., daughter of the late Levi Alfred and Myrtle Edna Foley Yost.

She is survived by three daughters, Loretta (Jim) Jeffries of Waynesburg, Pa., Linda (Gene) Dunn of Jacksonburg, and Martha (Wiley) Mitchem of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Bernice Tennant of Metz; a brother, James Walter Yost of Birchfield; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Hayes Antel of Mannington; and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver Clark Hayes, and her second husband, Junior John Sloan; two sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Yost Wright and Margaret Louise Yost Cox; and two brothers, Frank Alfred Yost and Dennis William Yost

She was a member of Waynesburg Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed crocheting, having learned to do that at age of 11. She will be missed very much by those who loved her.

Friends will be received at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington from 6-8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Nieta Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
