Edith Rae Closson, 82, of Fairmont, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday (July 28, 2013) at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
She was born in Fairmont on July 4, 1931, a daughter of the late James Lester and Augusta Juanita (Gallahue) Fetty.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Junior Closson, in January 1977.
Edith was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked as a cook for the Union Mission of Fairmont for 46 years up until the time of her death. She was a 1949 graduate of East Fairmont High School and a member of Victory Baptist Church. In addition to her loving family, she enjoyed spending time shopping, ceramics, taking cruises and trips to the Amish Country. She loved her church family and participating in all church activities.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert “Bob” Closson and his wife Cindy of Fairmont, David Closson and his wife Pam of Monongah, and John Closson and his wife Annette of Fairmont; 10 grandchildren, Brenda Brubaker and her husband Eric, Kelli Closson, Christine Closson, Robin Oliverio, Brian Closson, Patricia Spurr and her husband Steve, Jeremy Toothman, Carrie Martin and her husband Shawn, Michelle Chewning and Melissa Chewning; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, James W. Fetty and his wife Delores of Fairmont, Bill L. Fetty of Fairmont, and Paul R. Fetty and his wife Dorothy of Fairmont.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Closson; a son, James Lee Closson; and a brother, Richard Dale Fetty.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today. Calling hours will continue from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Victory Baptist Church, 1875 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Bob Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fairmont.
