Albert Bombardiere

FAIRMONT — Albert John Bombardiere, 78, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday (Feb. 27, 2011) after a brief illness with his beloved family by his side.

He was born in Clarksburg on June 15, 1932, the son of the late Salvatore and Antonina Ligammeri Bombardiere.

His wife of 56 years, Hazel Shillinburg Bombardiere, whom he married April 10, 1954, resides in Clarksburg.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth “Beth” Miller and her husband Monte of Clarksburg, Mrs. Gina White and her husband Robert of Fairmont, and Mrs. Therese Prichard and her husband Don of Philippi; eight grandchildren, Jason Miller and his wife Misty, J. Travis Miller and his wife Sandy, all of Bridgeport, Christina Gain, Erica Gain and fiancé Adam Lawrence, and Heather Gain, all of Philippi, Rachel Gain Hollen of Clarksburg, and Elizabeth and Natalie White of New York City; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dominick Bombardiere and wife Kay, Vincent Bombardiere, all of Clarksburg, and George Bombardiere and his wife Barbara of Hilton Head, S.C.; three sisters, Angeline Huffman and husband Ed, Rosemary Greynolds, all of Clarksburg, and Mary Ann Billingsley and her husband Barry of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Larry and Tony Bombardiere, Mary Angelina Bombardiere and Josephine Beeson.

Albert was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Stonewood. He worked for more than 30 years for the City of Clarksburg. He served actively and as a reservist in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing and reading, as well as watching old westerns.

There will be no public visitation. A public memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Stonewood with Father Douglas A. Ondeck as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Albert’s memory to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 707 Third St., Stonewood, WV 26301, or to the Alzheimer’s Association of West Virginia, 1299 Pineview Dr., Suite 3, Morgantown, WV 26505.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
