Paul T. Moore

Paul T. Moore, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., died at Gulfside Regional Hospice, Dade City, Fla., on Friday (Dec. 21, 2012), following a long battle after a fall sustained on Aug. 31, 2012, and subsequent surgery for a fractured femur.

He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, and he is sadly missed.

Paul was born in Baxter, on Dec. 28, 1923, the son of the late Floyd Morgan Moore and Winifred Viola Sease. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Harriette Layman, Daisy Martin, Naomi Boore, Eleanor Kucish, Ethel Scott, Betty Munching, Dorothy Dorsey; his brother, Howard Moore; and son, Philippe Andre Moore (1959-2001).

In his mid-teens, Paul joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a part of the New Deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Of his monthly pay of $30, $25 went to his widowed mother.

At the onset of WWII, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific theater and landing on Nagasaki as part of the occupation troops after the dropping of the atomic bomb.

In his early 30s, tired of civilian life, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. As a transportation specialist, his first tour of duty took him to Paris, France, in the mid-1950s, where he met and married his wife, Francoise “Frankie” Saumon Moore. Upon the termination of this tour, he was assigned to Tacoma AFB, Washington State, and six months later, chosen to serve in the Presidential Squadron at Andrews AFB during John F. Kennedy’s presidency.

Back in civilian life, he devoted most of his life to police work; he and his family moved to Florida in 1971; he retired as a special investigator for the Hillsborough County School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Frankie; daughters, Veronica Esters of Dahlonega, Ga., Patricia A. Crites of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., and Jennifer G. Moore of New York City; brother-in-law, Andrew Dorsey of Rivesville; sister-in-law, Georgette Saumon Montmory of Perpignan, France; grandchildren, Sterling and Taylor Minzenberger, Walker and Montana Esters, Stephen Watson, Jason Crites, and G.W. Crites IV and wife Jodee; great-grandchildren, Riley, Jason Jr., and G.W. Crites V; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families, and many dear friends.

Cremation services took place on Dec. 28, 2012, at Trinity Memorial Gardens, New Port Richey, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
