Don Richard Henderson, 78, of Morgantown and formerly of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (Aug. 3, 2013) at his residence.

He was born in Fairmont on Sept. 29, 1934, a son of the late James Henderson and the late Christine (Matthews) Henderson.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Ann Dempsey Henderson; one son, Richard Ralph Henderson of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, George Henderson, Mary Jo Watkins, John Henderson and James Henderson, thus making him the last surviving member of his immediate family. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He spent 27 years working for Arkwright and Consolidation Coal Co. as an underground electrician and a lamp man.

He was a member and supporter of the Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting and collecting guns.

He was a born-again Christian who believed firmly in the teachings of Jesus Christ and was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Barrackville.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
