Mary Sobolewski

Mary Dorothy Fabiano Sobolewski, 88, of Fairmont and for the past few years has resided with her daughter in Midlothian, Va., died Saturday morning (Jan. 18, 2014) at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Va.

She was born in Fairmont on May 15, 1925, daughter of the late Joseph and Teresa Bilotta Fabiano.

Mary previously worked at G.C. Murphy's and then retired from J.C. Penney as a sales associate, and later worked at the Marion County Public Library until 2011. Mary was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.

Mary is survived by her two children, Michael Joseph Sobolewski of Fairmont and Cheryl Diane Sobolewski of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catharine Flori and Anita Lease, and one brother, Frank Fabiano.

Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, today from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. Funeral rites will be held Wednesday in the funeral home at noon with Deacon David Lester officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
