Benjamin ‘Aaron’ Smith

Benjamin “Aaron” Smith, 20, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2014) at his family’s residence in Morgantown.

Aaron was born on June 24, 1993, in Fairmont.

Aaron graduated from East Fairmont High School in 2011 and was a founding family member of Heston Farm, helping to build the winery, distillery and event venues since the Farm’s inception over a decade ago. He also served as an office manager for Changepartner, kindly helping consultants and clients from across the world.

Aaron loved life, and his family and friends meant the world to him. He had a special kindness for everyone he met, especially little kids. Aaron always offered to help make others’ lives easier, and he often took on caretaking tasks that only someone older and wiser would undertake just so he could make another’s life easier. He was a gifted writer and he was just getting ready to write a book to help other teens through difficult changes. He loved to go to amusement parks, and even came to love the thrill of a fast roller coaster. He had a gift with all kinds of animals, from dogs to llamas to miniature horses. He was extremely proud of being part of the Heston Farm Family. He was a gracious host for all who came to the Farm, mainly because he wanted them to love the place as much as he did. He was loved by many, many people who all know that Aaron loved them back. He was kind, super smart, funny, and a hard worker. He tried to make everyone’s day brighter. We loved him dearly.

Aaron is survived by his parents, Mickey Heston and Julie Smith of Morgantown and Fairmont; two brothers, Michael Heston and his wife Emily of Fairmont, and Michael (J.R.) Baker Jr.; two sisters, Jennifer Heady and her husband Jesse of Atlanta, Ga., and Leah Ramsey and her husband Christopher of Fairmont; beloved nieces and nephews, including Sebastian and Octavia Heston, Rowan and Bettye Heady, and Ann Marie and Alivia Ramsey; extended family, Kellie Maynard and her husband Robert, and her parents Butch and Janie Cutlip; Michael Baker and his wife Kelly and mother Ann Baker; many cousins; additional families who made him the wonderful person he was including Dana and Kim Shay, and Cathy and Janet Crescenzi; many friends including Hunter Crescenzi, Tyler and Holly Vincent, Auri Anna Shay, Brittany Loughery and the entire Heston Farm Family; and his dogs he loved so much, Scooter, Wilson, Jade and Milo.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in Aaron’s memory to the Marion County Humane Society, Old Whiterock Road, Rt. 19, Box 31a, Fairmont, WV 26554.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Zinn officiating. A private committal service will be held for the family at a later time. A luncheon to celebrate Aaron’s life will follow the funeral service at Heston Farm Winery.
