Mary Corbin

Mary Louise Vangilder Corbin, 94, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday evening (July 6, 2014) in Sugar Land, Texas.

She was born on Alta Vista Avenue in Fairmont on March 5, 1920, to the late H.L. and the late Matilda Glass Vangilder.

Mary graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1938. She married the late George “Emerson” Corbin on April 24, 1946, and resided on U.S. 250 at White Hall until she moved to Texas in 2006 to be near her son, George “Randy” Corbin and his wife, the former Cheryl Ann Davis from Baxter.

Mary enjoyed her granddaughters and their families, April and Tommy Perez, Amanda and Jeff Fletcher, and Angela and Wesley Simmons. Some of her favorite visits were with her great-grandchildren, Elise Danielle Perez, Corbin Brock Fletcher and Micah John Simmons.

Mary enjoyed many years as an active member of Janes Memorial United Methodist Church at White Hall. She worked at Morrison’s, Westinghouse and finally for 11 years at Owens-Illinois. She enjoyed needlework, gardening and especially raising African violets. Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends in Fairmont, and made new friends in Texas.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Virginia Barnes.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Michael Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

Though flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to Janes Memorial UMC, U.S. 250 South, Fairmont, WV 26554-9807; Hospice Care, 1406 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554; or to a charity of choice.
