Kay Spiro

Kay J. Spiro, 74, formerly of Fairmont, passed away the morning of Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her home in Owings Mills, Maryland.

She was born in Fairmont to the late Otis and Goldie Frederick of Fairview on Dec. 23, 1939.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State University and a master’s degree in social work from West Virginia University. She began her social work career with the Department of Health and Human Resources in West Virginia. She continued her career with the Veterans Administration. She worked at the Lexington, Pittsburgh and Augusta sites before retiring.

Kay enjoyed time with her family and friends. She loved painting, reading and traveling.  

She is survived by three sons, Randall Barr and his wife Kathy of Summerville, South Carolina, Larry Barr of Summerville, South Carolina, and Terry Barr of Fairmont; one daughter, Linda K. Spiro of Owings Mills, Maryland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Arthur Frederick of Hickory, North Carolina, Frank Frederick and his wife Bunny of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Ken Frederick and his wife Linda of MacDonald, Pennsylvania, and Dale Frederick of Arvada, Colorado; two sisters, Rose Hall of Fairmont, and Gladys Tennant and her husband Joe of Tampa, Florida; and her former husband, Robert “Bob” Spiro of Fairmont.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Frederick, and a son, Michael Barr.

Family and friends will be received at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Her ashes will be scattered in Fairview after the service.

A reception will be held at the residence of Rose Hall, 65 Firehouse Road, Fairmont, at 3 p.m.

Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.
