Harold McQuain

Harold Lincoln McQuain, 87, formerly from Walnut Hill in Shinnston and more recently from Fairmont, went to be with the Lord on Friday (July 11, 2014), surrounded by his family.

He was born March 14, 1927, in Upshur County, the son of the late Perry “Wade” and Mildred “Beatrice” Metzgar McQuain. Harold was married to the late Lucy Ellen Thompson McQuain until her passing on Jan. 31, 1973.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Harold McQuain and wife Alesia (Reeves) of Boydton, Virginia, and Jamie McQuain and wife Veronica (Franks) of Fairmont; two grandsons, Jacob and Aaron McQuain of Boyton, Virginia; two granddaughters, Cheyann and Kendra McQuain of Fairmont; two sisters, Nellie Wilson of New York, and Shirley Nicholson and husband Bob of Weston; one brother, Harry McQuain and wife Tillie of Martinsburg; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Pauline Hammon.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Hupfeld and Margarette “Shorty” Brady, and three brothers, Russell, Buck and Herb McQuain.

Harold took great pride in being a farmer and meat cutter for many years. He worked at several A&P stores and Community Foodland, from which he retired from both companies. He also owned a local restaurant and gas station in Grafton. He also worked for the power company in the Buckhannon and Marlinton areas, where he met Lucy.

Throughout his life he enjoyed being a farmer and trading, but his greatest joy came from being a husband, father and grandpa. He took great care of Lucy during her illness. He had quite a sense of humor and was very loving and kind, and had many friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Pauline Hammon and her children, Joyce Neel, Rodney, Matt and Jeff Osbourne and their families for years of love and support shown to Harold and the family. We also would like to give thanks to Janalee and Joyanne Poe, and Kristen Riffle for being good caregivers when needed.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will be in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

Online condolences may be sent at DorseyFuneralHome WV.com. Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the McQuain family.
