Lester Stanley Fimple

FAIRMONT — Lester Stanley Fimple, 89, of Fairmont, Sarrietta Community, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday (Dec. 30, 2010) at Monongalia General Hospital.

He was born in Monument, Colo., on June 24, 1921, a son of the late Edward Caleb and Mabel Jane (Luzier) Fimple.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah Adaline (Yost) Fimple, in 1992.

Lester was retired from the Owens-Illinois Glass Plant, working in the batch department with more than 29 years of service. He actively attended Mannington Calvery Baptist Church. He was an avid nature lover and truly enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed going to church functions. He also enjoyed playing the game of dominos with his family. He loved his Lord, his family and his church. Lester will be sadly missed by all.

He is survived by one son, David Leon Fimple and his wife Tiny (Keener) Fimple of Fairmont; one daughter, Sandra LeMasters and her husband Derral of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Sheila Lemasters of Fairmont, Scott Lemasters and his wife Beth Ann of Fairmont, Marsha Pruitt of Virginia Beach, Christopher Fimple of Fairmont, and Elizabeth Anderson and her husband Clay of Mannington; and nine great-grandchildren, Joseph Loyd, Monica Loyd, Brent LeMasters, Aaron LeMasters, Cannon LeMasters, Camren Anderson, Blaine Anderson, Sarah Anderson and Emma Fimple.

Also surviving are a brother, John Fimple and his wife Colleen of Bunner Ridge; two sisters, Lorraine Rogers of Clovis, Calif., and Mabel Goble and her husband Ross of Newport News, Va.; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Fimple of Grafton; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by a brother, James Van Fimple; and four sisters, Annabell Currence, Rosalie Morris, Frances Brown and Eileen Erb.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor J. Lee Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
