Mary Foster

On Aug. 7, 1925, in Algoma, as a plan of God’s, he saw fit to grace Dave and Sarah Foster with a baby girl, Mary Elizabeth Foster.

Her daughter, Pauline Echols (now deceased), moved her mother, Mary, to Fairmont from Eckman, due to her illness and so she could be close to her. Mary joined Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, where she served as a missionary. She was also a member of the American Legion No. 0200 Lodge.

Mary also served as a custodian at Miles Chapel Church, where she was the overseer of the kitchen. Mary loved working puzzle books, sitting on her porch and people-watching from behind her little tree. Before her illness got her down, she would visit Mr. Charles Nallen on nice days when the sun would be shining.

Mary was blessed with 11 children. She leaves to cherish her memory and honor her life eight remaining children, Carolyn Wheeler of Fairmont, Aljurita Thomas of Bluefield, Paulette (Chuckie) Burns, Regina Foster of San Diego, California, Clifford (Nancy) Banks of Shinnston, Lee Foster of San Diego, California, Matthew Leon Foster of Fairmont and Shirley Foster of San Diego, California; a special granddaughter whom she raised from a child, Alecia Foster of San Diego, California; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her first great-great-grandson, Zayden Koal Powell. She is also survived by a special friend, Gail Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Sarah Foster; her daughter, Pauline Echols (twin to Paulette Bums); and sons, Ronald Wheeler and Samuel Foster.

Family and friends, as you leave here today, not with a sad face but a glad face, know in your hearts where Mary Elizabeth Foster is spending eternity, with the one and only Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Scripture says there will be trials we will go through and we will die. So be assured if we serve him, as we can attest she did as a servant of God, she is looking down on us saying “my life is with the King of Kings, the true and living God, the God of our Salvation, The Prince of Peace and Jesus Christ.”

Friends and family may call at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 135 Maple Ave., Fairmont, from 11-11:50 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the church with Pastor Tyrone Carper officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

Online condolences may be sent at Domico Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
