Henry “Hank” Barta

Henry “Hank” Barta, 88, of the Kellytown community in Farmington, passed away Sunday (June 22, 2014).

He was born May 26, 1926, in Fairmont, son of the late Charles and Rosa (Fulop) Barta.

Hank was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 38 years of service. Hank was of the Hungarian Reform faith. He was a farmer, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 629 and a member of the American Legion in Shinnston for 32 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou (Thomas) Barta, who passed on Feb. 18, 1979. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

He is survived by three sisters; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
