Carl Edwards Jr.

Carl “Bull” Embry Edwards Jr., 85, former City of Fairmont police chief, passed away Sunday (June 22, 2014) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born in Clarksburg on Dec. 24, 1928, a son of the late Carl Embry Edwards Sr. and Barbara Alberta (Greene) Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dana Louise (West) Edwards.

Chief Edwards retired as Fairmont chief of police in 1977 after serving 26 years with the City of Fairmont Police Department, where he touched and changed many lives working as a police officer. Prior to his law enforcement career, he had a career with the U.S. Army, retiring as master sergeant. He worked as chief of security at Fairmont General Hospital after his law enforcement career. He also was an electrician by trade. He was an accomplished gunsmith as well.

He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and was a member of the band. He was a member of VFW Post 7048 in Fairmont. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and music, and was an avid student of Civil War history. He will be greatly missed by his many family and friends, who marked him as a great influence on their lives.

He is survived by one son, Carl James “Moose” Edwards of Fairmont; two daughters, E. Jean McElroy and her husband Vincent of South Carolina, and C. Denise Reckart of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Jillian Lawrence-Shumaker and her husband Evan, Samantha A. Edwards, Robert Carl Trent and his wife Teresa, Natalie L. Trent-Luthy and her husband Ned, Dana Matthew Trent, Charles Robert Radcliff and his wife Sharon Ann, Jennifer Radcliff, and Tara Marie Edwards-Hays and her husband Paul; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Georgann Kenner and her husband Paul of Maryland; a brother, James Edwards and his wife Shirley of Fairmont; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Brit Edwards.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. William Preston officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

    Sam Pellerite, 93, of Zephyrhills, Florida (formerly of Village Way, Fairmont), passed away on Wednesday (June 25, 2014) in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where he had been living with his daughter during his battle with cancer. Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.

    She was born April 28, 1916, daughter of the late Vincent and Maria Galiano Pellerite.
    Carmela retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, also the Sharing and Caring group.
