Carol Jean Chapman, 73, of Fairmont, is now dancing with the angels. She passed away very peacefully with her children at her side on Wednesday (June 26, 2013) after a very long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Carol was born March 1, 1940, in Fairmont, the only daughter of the late Glenn Nichols and Margaret Phillips Nichols Saloky.
Carol was Methodist by faith. She graduated from East Fairmont High School and Clarksburg Beauty Academy. She gave up her career as a hair dresser to be the best wife and mother she could be. Carol loved gardening, the mountains, flea markets, yard sales and most of all having her family together. She loved all kinds of music and so loved to dance.
Carol is survived by her four children, all of which helped her through the difficult stages of Alzheimer’s, Mary Beth Joyce (Joe) of Fairmont, John Glenn Chapman (Laura) of Proctorville, Ohio, Timothy Todd Chapman and Faith Ann Snoderly, both of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, April Passaro, BJ Satterfield, Gary Chapman, Sarah Chapman, Joey Snoderly, Chloe Snoderly and Danae Satterfield; three great-grandchildren: Andrew and Daniel Passaro and Ella Mays; and her brother, Patrick Saloky of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John E. Chapman.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Carol’s daughter-in-law, Laura Chapman, for the many sacrifices and the excellent care that she gave Carol; also caregivers Penny Byrd of Proctorville, Ohio, Pam Ribic of Fairmont, and Amedisys Hospice for the care and support they provided, especially Bridget, Courtney and Becky.
Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bert Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer Foundation or your local humane society.
