Nevin Willard Steen, 82, of Enterprise, passed away on Friday (June 28, 2013) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born April 15, 1931, in Morgantown, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Feathers Steen.
Nevin is survived by his loving wife, Jane Bowen Steen, whom he married on April 5, 1968.
Also surviving are his children, Scott Steen and his wife Crystal of Plum Run, Crystal Sutphin and husband Earnie of Boone County, and Francie Robinson and husband Rick of Whitesville; grandchildren, Chey and Cassey Steen, Anthony Steen, Derek Sutphin, Michael and Miranda Robinson, Matthew Robinson, and Amanda and Jason Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Kaden Steen, Cami and Abby Robinson, Mia Robinson, and Kaylea and Kole Whitehead; his sister-in-law, Marsha Davis of Salem; brothers-in-law, Roger Bowen and wife Lola of Salem and Jerry Bowen and Jeannie of West Milford; as well as his brother, Porter Williams.
Mr. Steen served our country in the U.S. Army, serving in both the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and two OS Bars for M-14 Sharpshooter.
After his time in the military, he was employed by Quality Hydraulics, Precision Hydraulics and later retired from Americast Concrete in Charles Town. His favorite job was being a “Pappy” to his grandchildren, whom he loved to spoil. He also enjoyed gardening and meeting his “Coffee Club” in the mornings at McDonald’s.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Enterprise I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Pastor Don Skidmore officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Harrison County Honor Guard.
