Gary Wyer

Gary Lester Wyer, 64, of Fairview, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2014), at his home.

He was born June 4, 1949, in Fairview, son of the late Lester and Madalyn Gail (Gump) Wyer.

Many years ago, Gary was employed as a janitor in Washington, D.C., and was a member of the Pumpkin Center Church of Christ. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite teams on television, especially the West Virginia University Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is survived by cousins, Susan and David Regesture and their daughters Laura and Emily Regesture, all of Maryland; a cousin, Alice Gump, also of Maryland; and his caretaker, Theresa Cox of Fairview.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Eugene Wyer and Nathan Gale Wyer; and his uncle, Nolan Gump.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel in Fairview, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Evangelist Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
