James C. Hinerman, 88, of Bingamon Road, Worthington, passed away at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday, at his residence.
He was born in Monongah, Aug. 28, 1925, a son the late Ellis and Sarah Jane Long Hinerman.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta L. “Bertie” McGinnis Hinerman, whom he married Sept. 11, 1948. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Darla Jean Hinerman at home; three sons, Nathan Hinerman and his wife Susan of Fairmont, Michael Hinerman and his wife Debbie of Bingamon, and James R. “Pete” Hinerman and his wife Mary Ellen of Mannington; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hinerman Taylor; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Michelle, Stacy, Michael, Angie, Shawn, Shanelle, Casey, Jody and Shelly; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew and niece, James Garland and his wife Judy of Bingamon, and Matilda White of Monongah.
Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by one son, Johnnie E. Hinerman; two sisters, Mary V. Garland and Ruby Jane Hinerman; and nine brothers, Ernest Franklin, Jasper, Herbert, Virgil, Ford, Melvin, Homer Lee, Oakey Ellis and Arlie Hinerman.
Jim was a coal miner, having retired from Consolidation Coal Co. with 33 years service. He was a very proud WWII United States Navy veteran having served at Okinawa. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, Meuse Argonne Post No. 573 VFW, Clarksburg and the UMWA Local 9909, Fairview.
Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 5-8 p.m. today and from 2-8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Tom Brown of the Zion Assembly of God Church, Idamay, officiating. The American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, will conduct a Legion service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Grandview Memorial Park where full military graveside rites will be accorded.
