Dad had to leave first, and he waited on mom. Love Jesus. Forty years to the day, Betty Zane Duckworth, 88, of Fairmont passed away on Friday (Jan. 24, 2014), at the Tygart Center in Fairmont.
She was born Sept. 4, 1925, a daughter of the late Alton and Leecy Pearl Canfield Phillips. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Avery Duckworth.
She is survived by her children, Judy D. Duckworth Campbell and husband John of Idamay, William Donald “Don” Duckworth of Fairmont, and Linda Kaye Duckworth Menendez of Fairmont; her grandchildren, Lisa Campbell Moscufo and Joey, Jamie Lynn Campbell Simms and Wayne, Melissa Daye Campbell Moore, Rebecca Daffron and husband Tom, Kimberly Duckworth Schmidt, Ashley M. Duckworth, William Donald “Buddy” Duckworth, Jeremy Duckworth, William Michael Menendez and Barbara Joyce Menendez; as well as 17 great-grandchildren; Karla Wolverton Duckworth; and Frank Menendez.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Joyce Duckworth; and her brothers, Harold and Howard Phillips.
Betty attended the Israel Chapel Church in Mont Rose and the Cavalry Temple Church in Worthington. She loved having picnics and spending time with her family. Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed mowing grass and was a great-fisherwoman. Betty was a den mother with Cub Scouts of America in Cowen. She was also a member of the Coal Miners Ladies Auxiliary of Loveridge Mines.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, on Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Shuttlesworth officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
