Billy George Stevens, 74, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2014), at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Monongalia County on Aug. 25, 1939, a son of the late Clarence E. and Elizabeth (Miker) Stevens.
Bill proudly served his country with the U.S. Army with 23 years of service, spending two tours in Vietnam and retiring in 1984. After his military career, he was employed by the Monongalia County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School. He enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Davis Stevens of Fairmont; a stepdaughter, Sherry Kendall of Fairmont; and three step-grandchildren, Jodi Lynn Beard of Canonsburg, Pa., Jennifer Jamison of Greenville, S.C., and Julie Dawn Mason of Greenville, S.C.
Also surviving are four brothers, James J. Stevens and his wife Tressa of Morgantown, Bobby E. Stevens and his wife Sue of Morgantown, Carl Lee Stevens of Florida and David Terry Stevens of Florida; and a sister, Betty Jean McMillen and her husband Bob of Morgantown.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Hal Hevener officiating. Flag-folding honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard at the funeral home.
