Jennings ‘Big J’ Martin

FAIRMONT — Jennings “Big J” Grant Martin, 76, of Fairmont (Prickett’s Fort Community), died Thursday (July 29, 2010) at his residence.

He was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Fairmont, the son of the late Richard and Dollie Martin. He was a retired coal miner from the Barrackville mines, had worked for the interstate engineer and had his own business, Martin’s Welding. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed collecting knives and loved helping everyone out. He was an avid Steelers and Mountaineers fan. His passion was welding. His favorite pastime was going to Mom’s Restaurant.

Survivors include one daughter, Twila Martin of Fairmont; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeremiah and Crystal Martin of Buckhannon, William Gary and Sheila Martin of Fairmont and Jason Harris Martin and his fiancé Whitney; three sisters, Karen Hooper, Joyce (Susie) Pitman and Rose Mary Kroger, all of Fairmont; three brothers, Jessie (Jake) Martin, Roy (Tubby) Martin and Buddy Martin, all of Fairmont; and nieces and nephews.

Grandchildren, Mhisty Harris of Fairmont, Jeremiah Martin, Senova Martin, Natosh Martin, Bryce Martin all of Buckhannon, Brandi Martin of Collingdale, Pa. and Eric Martin of Barrackville; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Lyons, Billy Genovese of Fairmont, Jereiah Martin and Jeremiah Martin of Collingdale, Pa., Kamiah Martin of Morgantown, Zamiah Martin of Buckhannon, Ayiden Toland, Delanney Henderson of Buckhannon, Mckinley Martin of Fairmont, Aiden Martin, Ethan Martin of Barrackville, Jordan, Brittany and Gab of Fairmont.

He also is survived by many friends, including special close friend and employee Herbert Bosley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Frances Arlene Martin; and three sons, Robin, Jennings Jr. and Hastings Martin; one brother, Richard Austin Martin; and two sisters, Ivy (Joann) Kenndel and Barbara Kiser.

Friends may call the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Monday with Pastor L.C. Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow at the Montana Mines Cemetery in Montana Mines.   • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
