Alice Tucker

Alice Pearl Hays Tucker, 88, of Polk City, Fla., formerly of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2014).

She was born May 30, 1925, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Dannie Emerson and Elmira Jane McIntyre Hays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Wayne Tucker, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Tucker was a Protestant by faith, having recently attended New Life Community Church in Polk City, Fla. She was a 1943 graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended West Virginia College in Fairmont. Enjoying family and friends, she became a homemaker in the Fairmont area.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Ann Regan of Polk City, Fla., and Iris Jean and her husband Carl Ledford of Lake Alfred, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christy Hammett of Florida, Paul Hileman of Lake Alfred, Fla., Tyler Ledford of Lake Alfred, Fla., and Dawn Lowery of Polk City, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; a sister; Twyla B. and her husband Guy Wooddell of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dannie Ralph Hays; two sisters, Berneda Hays and Vivian M. Baxter; and a grandchild, Eric Lee Robinson.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. A private committal service will be held at a later date in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that all memorial donations be made to the West Virginia Chapter of the March of Dimes, 3508 Staunton Ave., second floor, Charleston, WV 25304.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
