Filmore Donini

Filmore W. Donini, 89, of Fairmont, left this world to join the Lord and his wife in eternity on Jan. 26, 2014.

He was born June 27, 1924, in Westmoreland County, Pa., son of the late Ernest Donini and Rosy Chiste Donini Phillips.

Filmore served his country during World War II, March 6, 1943-Dec. 28, 1945. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Badge, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Arrowhead July 45, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member of VFW Post 629.

He retired from Arkwright Mine with 43 years of service. He was a lifetime fan of Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont.

Filmore is survived by two sons, William Donini and wife Debra of Lost Creek, and Rick Donini and his wife Susie of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Melissa Baker and her husband Brian, Chris Donini and his wife Mandi, Craig Donini, Jennifer Shelton and boyfriend Shaun, and Nicolas Donini and his wife Barbara; 10 great-grandchildren, Cecil and Raymond Carpenter, Makaila and Darian Shelton, Jasmine, Dominic, Christian, Anthony, Christopher and Cash Donini.

In addition to his parents, Filmore was preceded in death by his wife, Isabell Donini.

Family members would like to express their sincere thanks to Fairmont General Hospital doctors and staff and also a special thanks to Sister Stella Cronauer.

A memorial service will be held at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, with Sister Stella Cronauer officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Mausoleum in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
