Elizabeth Hartley

Elizabeth Fiori Hartley died of a brain aneurysm on February 8, 2014 at her residence on James Island, South Carolina. She was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on August 9, 1956.

Liz spent most of her early life in Fairmont and graduated from East Fairmont High School. She worked at various retail establishments and restaurants in Fairmont and later in Charleston, S.C.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Alan Hartley, and their sons, Cale and Graham, all of James Island; her parents, Nick and Betty White Fiori, of Fairmont; her sister, Tina McClain, husband Brett, and children Kellen and Marissa, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; her brother, Michael Fiori, wife Ellen, and children Carson and Nicholas, of Charlotte, N.C.  Also surviving are her aunt, Rosemary Webber, husband Jack, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and her sister-in-law, Mimi Hartley, of Fairmont.

Liz loved her job as a salesperson at Hyams Garden and Accent Store, where her excellent taste, love of decorating, and winning personality were put to use.  She will be remembered for her delightful sense of humor, creativity, intelligence, and deep devotion to her family. She cherished her sons with all her heart and dedicated her life to their care and well-being.

Her remains were cremated. A memorial service was held on February 12 at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home on James Island.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
