— Curtis Harrison Jones II, 70, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2014) at his home following a brief illness.

He was born in Fairmont on April 9, 1943, a son of the late Curtis Harrison Jones Sr. and Earleane Marie (Freeman) Jones.

Curtis was a coal miner by trade. He was retired from Peabody Coal Federal No. 2 mine with 35 years of service. He was a member of UMWA District 31. He enjoyed relaxing with his family and friends, fishing, boating, hunting, bowling, billiards, working on cars and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Louise (Washington) Jones; five sons, Curtis Jones III and his wife Kelley of Barrackville, Tony Randall Jones and his wife Mary of Barrackville, Dwaine Edward Jones and his wife Tami of Fairmont, Kasean Phillip Stuck of Fairmont and Leo Thomas Jones of Barrackville; three daughters, Della Miller of Fairmont, Betty Moore Turner and her husband Dedric of Tennessee, and Cynthia Allen and her husband Larry of Bridgeport; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are six brothers, Donald Lee Jones and his wife Linda, Robert A. Jones, Jimmy A. Jones and his wife Charlena, and Eugene A. Jones, all of Fairmont, Harry Jones of Charleston and John Jones of Morgantown; eight sisters, Barbara Shepherd and her husband Danny, Shirley Shepherd and her husband Butch, Ella Lewis, and Janet Washington and her husband Billy, all of Fairmont, Sonja Jones of Morgantown, Tonya Jones of Morgantown, and Frances Jones and Mary Jones, both of Charleston; his best friend and companion, Tammi Stuck; and his best friend and caregiver, Harvey VanFossom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Jones; one grandson, Montrell D. Walker; one brother, Earl Jones; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Alice Brown; and a brother-in-law, Lynn Brown.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-7 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor Hal Hevener officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.
