Marie Holland

Marie Mozelle Holland, 74, of Fairmont, passed from this life Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2014) at Fairmont General Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Olmstead, Ill., on Oct. 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Honley W. and Pauline Coleson Hooker.

Marie was a Christian by faith, and often times helped medically challenged people that needed financial assistance by organizing benefits and performing for free to raise money. She was a musician and singer. She was a personal friend of Buck Owens and had performed with him. She sang with her family band “Mozelle Day and the Daydreamers” for several years. In addition to singing, she enjoyed watching old movies and reading.

Ms. Holland is survived by her two daughters, Bambi Adams, who was her primary care giver, and Noel Holland of Joplin, Miss.; six grandchildren, James W. Hale, Sarah Marie Hale, Jennifer Adams, Holly Stovall, Tiffany Cummins and Brandon Randol; and also five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Hooker; two sisters, Ethel Riedel and Sharon Burkhart; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Zinger. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no funeral home visitation or services. Condolences may be sent to the family at or

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
