— Carl Harold Zuspan Jr., 85, of Grafton, died Sunday (Feb. 23, 2014) at the United Hospital Center.

He was born June 24, 1928, in Fairmont, a son of the late Carl H. Zuspan and Freda Dunn Zuspan Bragg.

Mr. Zuspan was schooled in Marion and Kanawha counties. He was a member of Janes Memorial United Methodist Church, where he chaired the council and taught Sunday school. Later on in life, he attended Harmony Grove Baptist Church before returning to Janes Memorial United Methodist Church.

Carl owned Zuspan’s Auto and Truck Inc. in Fairmont before retiring to his farm in Taylor County in 1986. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, caring for his lawn and his German shepherd Frauline Heidi.

Mr. Zuspan was a member of the Grafton Lodge #15 A.F. & A.M., was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in the Valley of Clarksburg and Orient of West Virginia, as well as a member of the Taylor County Shrine Club, Grafton, and Osiris Shriners of Wheeling.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Virginia Abruzzino Zuspan, whom he married on Aug. 23, 1972; his son, Eric W. Zuspan of Grafton; a daughter, Karen Zuspan of Morgantown; his grandson, Erik Dalton Zuspan of Fairmont; his granddaughter, Christa Elder of Fairmont; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Mattie Dunn of Braxton County near Sutton, and Clarence “Dick” and Ema Parish Zuspan of Fairmont; his sister, Betty Boda and her husband Alex; and a daughter, Charolette Ann Zuspan.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Michael Richards officiating. A committal service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont. Masonic ritualistic services will be held at graveside by the Grafton Lodge #15 A.F. & A.M.
