Betty Dodd

Betty Shaver Dodd, 93, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Feb. 20, 2014) at the Genesis Fairmont Campus Pierpont Campus.

She was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Marion County, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Ethel Ann Myers Shaver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul G. Dodd.

Betty was a 1938 graduate of East Fairmont High School, as well as a graduate of West Virginia Business College. She retired from the ESSO/Humble Oil Co. where she served as the secretary. Upon retirement, she worked in the travel agency business and later with Adams Office Supply.

She was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was very active prior to moving to Green Valley, Ariz., for more than 25 years. While living in Green Valley, she was active in the Community Church, where she helped run the church “patio sale” fundraiser, participated in missions and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Tucson, Ariz. She and her husband Paul traveled extensively and served on several mission trips in Hawaii and China before returning to Fairmont in 2009.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, Clyde and his wife Berni Dodd, of Fairmont, as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin, Paul and James Shaver, as well as her sister, Mary Hartley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1511 Pleasant Valley Road, Fairmont, WV 26554; or the Marion County Humane Society, P.O. Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Friends and family are invited to share in a memorial service at Valley Chapel United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Andrew Tennant and the Rev. Cemetery in Bentons Ferry.

    Sam Pellerite, 93, of Zephyrhills, Florida (formerly of Village Way, Fairmont), passed away on Wednesday (June 25, 2014) in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where he had been living with his daughter during his battle with cancer. Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.

    She was born April 28, 1916, daughter of the late Vincent and Maria Galiano Pellerite.
    Carmela retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, also the Sharing and Caring group.
