Jerry Ned Opyoke

Jerry Ned Opyoke, 75, of Farmington, died Friday (Feb. 28, 2014) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.  He was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Wheeling, a son of the late Andrew and Emma Hollobaugh Opyoke.

Jerry was a hardworking man who worked several different jobs including: construction for Mountainside Homes, coal mining, as an electrician and as a maintenance man. He was a veteran, an avid hunter and fisherman, loved gardening and spending time with his family. He was a devoted Christian and member of the Oakhurst Church of Christ, where he considered the congregation his second family. He was outgoing and friendly and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Jo Belt Opyoke, whom he married July 10, 1970; four children: Kimberly Jewell and husband Craig, Fairmont; Jerry Opyoke of Fairmont and his girlfriend, Crystal Frost; Louis Opyoke, Farmington; and Sherry Andrews and husband Vincent, Rivesville; six grandchildren: Kelsie Tate, Tyler, Jeremiah and Sammantha Opyoke, and Haylee Jewell and Sierra Andrews; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Tate; a sister, Shirley Boord, Fairmont; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Eugene and Jessica Opyoke, Farmington; Joseph “Rick” and Joni Opyoke, Fairmont; Andrew “Sonny” and Debbie Opyoke, Taylor County,; and Terry and Jodi Opyoke, Stanton, Va.; and several additional brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant sister: Penny Jo Opyoke.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington on Thursday from 2-8 p.m., where a funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. with Evangelist Craig Matheny officiating. Cremation will follow. Condolences may be accessed at
