James Tackish

James Marvin “Jimmy T.” “Rat” Tackish, 60, of Bellview, passed from this life Monday (June 10, 2013) in his home under Hospice Care after a very brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Fairmont, on Aug. 17, 1952, a son of Betty Posten Takish of Bellview and the late Louis Takish.

Jim was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969. He served as a top secret security guard (MP) and special security details in the U.S. and the South Pacific. He was a veteran of Vietnam, receiving several commendations and unit awards.

After his discharge in 1972, he owned a bar in Fairmont called The Blue Kaboose while he attended college and worked for Supreme Amusements. He later worked at the Four States Mine No. 20, where he was chairman of the Safety Committee for the U.M.W.A. Local 4060. He later worked for P.E.R. at the Rivesville Power Plant.

He relocated to Bradenton, Fla., where he worked at Tropicana Products as a senior design draftsman. Returning after seven years he worked at Mill Bridge Inc. in Fairmont, a manufactured-housing company, as a design and project manager.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Tackish is survived by three sons, James L. Takish of Fairmont, James Joshua Hardesty of Grant Town, and Jared Scott Tackish of Fairmont; one daughter and son-in-law, Tara Leah Hardesty Ford and her husband Josh of Fairmont; also three grandchildren, Kinsey Hardesty, Riley Ford and Kiley Ford.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Paul Takacs.

Jim’s family would like to thank Hospice Care for their loving care during his illness.

Friends may call at the Frey Home for Funerals (Addition Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, Friday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Friday at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Melvin Ringer officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
