Pauline Long

Mary Pauline Long, 94, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday (Sept. 15, 2013) at St. Barbara’s Memorial Nursing Home in Monongah.

She was born in Kansas on March 8, 1919, a daughter of the late Wallace Earl and Myrtle (Barnhart) Ellis.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, William E. Long.

Pauline worked as a sales clerk for Harden-Holt Dress Shop in Melbourne, Fla., in her earlier years. She was a graduate of Melbourne High School and attended business school in Atlanta, Ga. She was Baptist by faith and enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing and traveling. She was proud of the fact that Ellis Road in Melbourne, Fla., is named for her family.

She is survived by her niece, Anne Goodwin and her husband Ronald of Fairmont; and several nephews, including Robert Ellis and his wife Cheryl of Vero Beach, Fla., Kenneth Ellis of Melbourne, Fla., Stephen Ellis and his wife Diana of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael Ellis and his wife Kimberly of Tallahassee, Fla.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Ellis and Roger Ellis; one nephew, Russell Ellis; and a great-nephew, Shaun Ellis.

In keeping with Pauline’s wishes, she will be laid to rest at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla., where graveside services will be held at a later date with the Rev. Ralph Nygard officiating.

The family would like to thank the employees and staff of St. Barbara’s Memorial Nursing Home, the late Sister Mary Stephen Reynolds, caregivers Karen and Peggy (who were there for Mary for the long haul), the employees and staff of Hospice Care and all the countless other marvelous caregivers for Mary, “you all are the best.”

Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, has been entrusted with local arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at
