Helen Bernardo

Helen Virginia Bernardo, 89, of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away April 1, 2013, at a Cleveland health care facility.

She was born Feb. 6, 1924, to the late Henderson and Blanche Thomas Satterfield. She spent the last five years of her life being cared for by her daughter and the loving staff of Clare Bridge of Cleveland, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Bernardo; a sister, Laura Wilson; and brother, Eugene Satterfield.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Satterfield; and daughter, Sandra Joy Carrel.

She was a caring daughter to her mother for many years, a loving and cherished wife and mother, and a faithful follower of Christ.

The family received friends at Companion Funeral & Cremation Service located at 2415 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, Tenn., on April 4, 2013. Her body will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.

The family is planning a memorial service for Saturday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Wesleyan Methodist Church located at 1265 Bell Run Road in Fairmont.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
