JoAnn Augustus

JoAnn Augustus, 64, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully Saturday (April 20, 2013) at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Fairmont on Aug. 12, 1948, a daughter of the late Earl E. and Jaunita (Watson) Bissett.

JoAnn was a CNA by trade, working in the nursing field since the age of 16. She retired in 2007 from the John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center. She was a wonderful caregiver in her home as well as in her profession.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was raised Pentecostal and most recently was associated with Fairmont Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Walter A. Augustus of Fairmont; two daughters, Debra Ann Boyd and her husband John of Fairmont, and Kristal Staton and her husband James of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren, Brandi, Amber, Carrie, Robert, Katelyn, Summer, John Robert Jr. and Paula Alane; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Nicole and Christopher James.

Also surviving are four brothers, Roger Bissett and his wife Sue of Fairmont, Danny Bissett and his wife Darlene of Gypsy, John Bissett of Everson and Gary Bissett of Fairmont; five sisters, Nancy Campbell and her husband Tommy of Gypsy, Sarah Jaunita Pierson of Fairmont, Alice Bissett of Shinnston, Vera Bissett of Worthington and Violet Bissett of Worthington; her stepmother, Mary Bissett; a brother-in-law, Randy Carl Summers; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Edward Bissett Jr. and Jimmy Bissett; and a sister, Sandra S. Summers.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Glenn Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and their staff for all their loving care of JoAnn.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
