Wilbur Irwin Hannah, 78, of St. Pauls, N.C., passed away Saturday (June 29, 2013) at the Tygart Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Hammond on Aug. 23, 1934, a son of the late Walter Morgan and Violet Serepta (Moore) Hannah.
Wilbur proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy. In his earlier years, he worked for B&O Railroad and for Owens-Illinois in the shipping department. He also worked as a maintenance worker for Fellowship Baptist Church and Calvary Christian School. Wilbur was a man of great faith who loved people and serving the Lord. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Fairmont and Friendship Baptist Church in St. Pauls, N.C. He was very involved in his church, where he taught Sunday school and was in the bus ministry for 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting Christmas village scenes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delores (Cain) Hannah of St. Pauls, N.C.; two daughters, Deborah Davis and her husband George of Fairmont, and Linda Fleming and her husband Scott of St. Pauls, N.C.; six grandchildren, Brian Richard Tibbs, Nathanial Patrick Davis, Melissa Sue Vanderford, Meghan Hannah Davis, Julie Ann Brock and Jeffrey Scott Fleming and his wife Lena; and seven great-grandchildren, Crystal Mackzine Brock, Makayla Nicole Fleming, Morgan Ethan Brock, Sophia Marie Davis, Allie Marie Fleming, Christian Alexander Davis and Autumn Rayne Davis.
Also surviving is a sister, Geneva Loboda of Fairmont, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Tammy Jo Hannah; and a sister, Elladean Dunlap and her husband Robert.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Glen Stevenson, Pastor Bill Stutler and Pastor Johnathan Hickmon officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
