— Rose Marie Gardi, 92, of Fairmont, passed away at the Tygart Center on Friday (Aug. 2, 2013) with her son, daughter-in-law, granddaughters, sister and brother-in-law by her side.

She was born in Watson, on Dec. 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Genovese.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Roxie Gardi, who passed away April 17, 1999. They were married for 60 years.

She was previously employed at Westinghouse, Fairmont Box Co. and the Outlet for Arts and Crafts. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was exceptional at crafts. Her family and home were her absolute joys in life.

She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, and belonged to St. Monica’s Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America. Prior to her illness, she faithfully attended Mass and her church organizations. She also enjoyed evening walks when weather permitted.

Rose is survived by her only child, her son, James L. Gardi and wife Patricia of Fairmont. Also surviving are her grandchildren. who were the lights of her life, Annamarie (Bill) Smerka of Westover, Roxanne (Mike) Perry of Fairmont, James L. (Amy) Gardi Jr. of North Carolina and David (Jennifer) Gardi of Fairmont; nine great-grandchildren, Billy Smerka Jr. of Westover, Michael (Emily) Perry of Parkersburg, Ryan Perry of Fairmont, Elizabeth (Matt) Gardi Young, Kayla Gardi, Macie Gardi of North Carolina, Brielle Gardi, Joel Gardi and Chandler Gardi of Fairmont; and one great-great granddaughter, Adelyn Murray of Fairmont. She is also survived by two sisters, Josephine Kopasz of California and Madeline (Sam) Oliverio of Fairmont; one sister-in-law, Lily Julian of Fairmont; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and their spouses, Veatrice (Ross) Falbo and Julia (Tony) Ross; a young sister, Adelina Genovese; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Gardi.

The family would like to thank the many people who were so wonderful to her at Tygart Center, especially Patricia. Also, many thanks to Maggie from Hospice Care.

Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
