Lewis Roman

On Monday (Aug. 12, 2013), a beautiful angel passed through the gates of heaven when Lewis F. “Gee Gee” Roman, 72, of St. Albans, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at CAMC Memorial Hospital, after a courageous and valiant seven-week battle with a lung infection.

Lew was born March 29, 1941, in Uniontown, Pa., to Donald and Angela “Judy” Roman, both of whom preceded him in death.

Lew grew up in Clarksburg and graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1959, and attended West Virginia University. He had a very successful 35-year career as an executive with Commercial Credit Citigroup before retiring in 1999.

After retiring, he was able to travel extensively, including going to Hawaii and Italy two different times. He thoroughly enjoyed touring the country of his heritage and going to Calabria to see the home area of his grandparents.

He was a member of and served on the finance committee of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nitro, was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Lew was an avid outdoorsman, truly enjoying hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time in the mountains. His true passion was rebuilding and restoring antique cars. He was a skilled mechanic and craftsman and restored brilliantly five antique cars.

Left to cherish his memory, Lewis is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 1/2 years, Barbara; his adoring daughters, Michelle Fox and husband Jamie of Hurricane, Lisa Ramsey and husband Kevin of St. Albans, and Tina Slater and husband Rick of Hurricane; and seven grandchildren, Alexa, Isabella and Preston Fox, Josh and Zach Ramsey, and Tori and Mackenzie Slater, all of whom he loved dearly and immensely enjoyed spending time with and attending their activities.

He is also survived by his brother, Frank Roman and wife Mary Jo; brother-in-law, Thomas Rokisky and wife Sharon; along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He will be truly missed by all his family and friends, but all are grateful for having the opportunity to know him.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans. A scripture prayer service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2219 22nd St., Nitro, with the Rev. Father Joseph Tuscan, OSM Cap, as celebrant. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Clarksburg.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
