Robert J. “Bob” Dunnington

Robert J. “Bob” Dunnington, 72, of Katy Road, died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2012) at his residence.

He was born Jan. 31, 1940, at Idamay, a son of the late Eva Dunnington Irmie.

Bob was a salesman for Kettering and Flowers Bakery, having retired with over 30 years of service. Following his retirement, Bob managed and was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 294 in Fairmont.

He was a 1958 graduate of Farmington High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football, but was especially a standout in basketball. He loved to golf and cherished his time and relationship with his golf buddies. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Jeopardy and singing.

His singing talent led him to participate in a barbershop quartet and to also sing solo at church and weddings. He loved the state of West Virginia, evidenced by his efforts to visit and urge his family to visit all state parks in the state.

He was an avid fan of West Virginia University and North Marion High School sports, and was a member of the White Rock Community Church. He was also proud of his heritage, which included being a descendent of Stonewall Jackson and Henry “Old Hundred” Church, the namesake of the town of Hundred.

Twice married, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Jean Welch Dunnington, who died June 18, 1991, and is survived by his current wife, Mary Faith Conrad Dunnington. Also surviving are three daughters, Kim Thompson and husband Harrison of West Milton, Pa., Bobbie Dunnington Delaney of Fairmont and Dorinda Talerico and husband David of Fairmont; one son, Robert Joseph “Joe” Dunnington and wife Lori of Kayenta, Ariz.; grandchildren, Brooks and MaryKate Thompson, Melvin Delaney and wife Jessica, Jessica Marie Delaney and Bryan, Matthew and Lauren Talerico; great-grandchildren, Emmalee, Caleb and Austin Delaney and Bella Talerico; three step-daughters and husbands, Beth and George Papandreas of Morgantown, Cheri and Harold Abel of Venetia, Pa., and Kyra and Andre Pulliam of Stephens City, Va.; step-grandchildren, Meighan Cale and husband Chris, Brad Abel and wife Crystal, and Kayla and Krystin Pulliam; step-great-grandchildren, Emma Cale, Christopher Abel and Sarah Lizardi; and special friends, Joe Snoderly, Joe Tipper, Joe Sandy, Bobby Cann and Harry Steptoe.
