Robert J. “Bob” Dunnington

Robert J. “Bob” Dunnington, 72, of Katy Road, died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2012) at his residence.

He was born Jan. 31, 1940, at Idamay, a son of the late Eva Dunnington Irmie.

Bob was a salesman for Kettering and Flowers Bakery, having retired with over 30 years of service. Following his retirement, Bob managed and was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 294 in Fairmont.

He was a 1958 graduate of Farmington High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football, but was especially a standout in basketball. He loved to golf and cherished his time and relationship with his golf buddies. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Jeopardy and singing.

His singing talent led him to participate in a barbershop quartet and to also sing solo at church and weddings. He loved the state of West Virginia, evidenced by his efforts to visit and urge his family to visit all state parks in the state.

He was an avid fan of West Virginia University and North Marion High School sports, and was a member of the White Rock Community Church. He was also proud of his heritage, which included being a descendent of Stonewall Jackson and Henry “Old Hundred” Church, the namesake of the town of Hundred.

Twice married, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Jean Welch Dunnington, who died June 18, 1991, and is survived by his current wife, Mary Faith Conrad Dunnington.
